Hey there Rustic Wood Lover!

Either you have built your own coat rack or you have purchased one of our coat racks, and now you want to install it. You are in luck because this is a very easy process!

There are two ways to do this depending on whether or not you will be installing this directly into studs or if you will be installing this into drywall using drywall anchors.

Of course, the best way to do this is to install directly into studs, but let’s face it – sometimes where you want to hang up your things is not where the studs are! The great news is that there are some really great drywall anchors on the market that will allow you to hang up heavier items and not worry about pulling your rack out of the wall. So – EITHER WAY – will be fine!

If you are installing this into a stud you do not need to use the drywall anchors:

  1. Locate a stud in the wall at the desired hanging location. Mark it with a pencil. The best way is to use a stud finder that you can buy online or in any hardware store. If you are a man holding a stud finder – you are required to put in on your chest and press the button to hear the beep then say, “Yep, it’s working…” (Dad Jokes – right??)

This one sells for under $10 at Lowe’s.

  1. Position the coat rack on the wall as desired, lining up at least one mounting hole with a stud. Make sure your rack is level.  Mark the location of each mounting hole on the wall.
  2. Insert the screw into the mounting hole and screw into the stud. Tighten the screw until it sits flush within the mounting hole.
  3. Repeat on the other side in the second mounting hole.

To use the included drywall anchors (no drilling required):

  1. If you bought one of our coat racks, we include drywall anchors that do not require drilling. These are awesome because not everyone has a drill laying around. Position your rack in the desired position, make sure its level and mark the location of each mounting hole. If you don’t have a level, you can download an app on your smartphone that is pretty darn accurate! To check if your holes are level, simply draw a line from one hole to the next and see if that line is level by using a level or the app on your phone.
  2. Screw the anchors into the drywall with a screwdriver until they are flush with the wall. This is where the “no drilling required” anchors come in handy. If you don’t have access to this type of anchors, you may have to pre-drill a hole to insert the anchor. If this is the case, your anchors should give you specific instructions on what size drill bit to use. If you are installing a Rockin’ Wood Coat rack, you won’t need to do any drilling. We splurge for the good parts for you to make it easier! (You’re welcome!) These are the anchors we use that you can get in any hardware store or online.

  3. Place screws through the rack’s mounting holes and into anchors. Tighten the screws by hand but avoid overtightening. You always want to get one screw in first and tighten it only until it’s snug then get the other screw in before tightening both sides. I have made this mistake before where I overtightened one side only to realize my second hole didn’t quite line up properly. SO, get both screws in and make sure it’s a good fit, then tighten them both until they are tight. NOT TOO TIGHT!  You don’t want to strip your anchors.

Now – sit back and admire your work. Good job! I’m proud of you!

You can always add some extra rustic flair to your wall by adding some reclaimed wood shutters or a farmhouse sign.
